Congrats to "All-Time" NABA’ers Kenny Laubacher and Mike Van Allen!    The Giants capped a terrific season with a victory over the long-time powerhouse
Padres ball club for their first ever NABA Championship.  The Giants have competed in the league since our first season way back in 1994 so this had to be a special one for the guys!

The Grays topped the Cubs in a thrilling 4 to 3 game on Sunday, August 9, 2009 out at the University of Rochester .  The game ended
with the Grays turning a 5-2-3 double-header with the bases-loaded!  A full game write-up to follow but in the meantime, congrats to Manager Jeff Becker and his Grays' squad!

GIANTS TAKE ‘09 28+CROWN!

Congrats to Manager, Tim Sova, the rest of the Sova’s and their supposed “over the hill gang”!  Rochester’s own lovable Cubbies squad came back on the defending champion, Grays, to win in a 8-7 nail-biter at beautiful Dugan Yard at St. John Fisher.

Cubs Win! CUBS WIN!
edge the grays to take 2010 18+ crown!

Mother Nature lost out to Lady Luck as the weather held out and the rag-tag group of free-agents assembled by GM/3B John Scarpelli, known as “Da Bums”, took the Labor Day Classic Championship.  It was a true team effort highlighted by stellar pitching efforts from Gary Hebert, Arian Horbovetz and Mike Hebert.   The team voted Mike the MVP after he shut down the high-scoring Rockies.   And rounding out Team Hebert, Mark played a great first base and came through in the clutch catching the Sunday morning game.   Both “rookies”, Marco Fantauzzi and Tim Lynne contributed in their first hardball action after years away from the diamond.  Duke Germano and Alex DiMuro shored up the corners in the outfield and old-time NABA’rs Rick Goldman and Sean Mahoney played a great Center and Left Field.   Finally, the team was anchored by Webster “youngsters” Jeff Eckler (SS/3B) and Mike G (C/3B), both of whom also wielded big sticks for ‘Da Bums.

My thanx to all the players who came out for the tourney, the Managers who stepped up (Scott Schum, Mike Tepper, Mickey Harris and Jay Mann) and especially, Zach O’Brien who did a terrific job coordinating our efforts.

Red Stox TOP PADRES FOR 2010 28+ CROWN!
After a tremendous 2010 campaign where literally, any of the playoff teams could have fought their way into the Championship Game, t
he Red Stockings were able to knock off the Padres in a tough 5 to 3 game.  Danny Herman went 8 innings for the ‘Stox and Mark Faulkner closed up the game for the victory.  Lefty Craig Jones pitched a great game as well for the Padres.

Congratulations to Gary Hebert and the rest of the Red Stockings on winning the 2010 Championship in one of our most competitive seasons ever!

On a perfect night for baseball out at Frontier Field, the National League All Stars bested their AL rivals, 9-7.  The NL was led by MVP, Matt Holtby of the Grays, who had two hits and three RBI’s, including the eventual game-winner.

The game
was played in memory of our teammate, Adam Miller, who passed away earlier this summer.  I am proud to report that the NABA players and fans raised almost $500 to donate to the Golisano Children’s Hospital in Adam’s memory.

CUBS CROWNED 2011 18+ CHAMPS!
Paul SOVA PITCHES CUBBIES TO second STRAIGHT TITLE

A terrific season for the 18+ Cubs was capped with a their second straight Championship victory on Sunday, August 14, 2011.   Manager Tim Sova once again pulled all the right strings as his veteran ball club topped the “rookie” Geneva Braves squad.  The Braves were led by their Manager sand NABA All Star, Scott Ross and featured a top-caliber roster, going 13 and 5 in their inaugural NABA campaign.

Paul Sova once again
dominated, going the distance for the shut-out win.   The Cubs offense was sparked by their “39+” contingent, with Chuck Jacobs (2-2, 2 RBIs) and Jimmy Falu (1-2, 2 RBIs) driving in all the runs!

Congrats to the the Cubs on their Championship and to the Braves for a fantastic first season in the NABA!

DODGERS ARE 28+ CHAMPS!
Mike Overstreet HURLS COMPLETE GAME FOR WIN
Despite all of the rain this season, 2011 was capped off with the first ever Championship win for the 28+ Dodgers.  After being in the league only three years, the Dodgers managed by Casey Beeley, pulled off a 5-1 win over the Mets, managed by Bill Rothrock and Matt Delly.

Both pitchers held each team to zero runs until an error allowed the Mets to take the lead 1-0 in the top of the 4th inning.  At the bottom of that inning the Dodgers buckled down and focused on offense.  The inning led off with a walk to Steve Ruffino (1 for 2 with two walks and two runs scored) and a
single by Mike Overstreet (3 for 3 with 2 RBI’s).  That single tied the game 1-1 and the Dodgers didn’t look back after that.  In that same inning Dave Pasternak added a sacrifice fly to take the lead 2-1.  The Dodgers added six more hits and scored three more runs, ending the game with a score of 5-1.

The game MVP was given to Mike Overstreet after throwing 9 full innings and giving up zero earned runs.  Mike’s stellar pitching performance also included 9 strike outs and he only gave up three total hits.  Additionally, Mike performed tremendously on the other side of the plate with 3 hits and 2 RBI’s.

Congrats to the 28+ Dodgers and all of their players.  This was a true team effort all year long and everyone played a great part in the final outcome of the season.
