Welcome to the Rochester NABA Baseball Web Site!

It's hard to believe but both leagues are winding down '08 season and the pennant races are shaping up for a wild finish.  After adding four more teams in the off-season (bringing us to 26 which makes us one of the largest amatuer Men's leagues in the Country) everyone has been great in helping all the new players and teams come up to speed.  Here's an update on what's happening:

...and Congrats to the Fairport Village Inn for winning the 18+ "Best of the Rest" Crown on Sunday -- FVI came back from a 12 RUN DEFICIT to win 15 to 14 in 10 innings for their 3rd win of the weekend...now, that's a lot of baseball!

My thanx to all the Managers and Players of the 18+ Leagues...losing 2 full weeks of games right before the playoffs makes for a mess of a schedule!  Guys have stepped up and we have managed to get several make-ups in.  In addition, Steve Pepe of the Black Sox has really helped out and has taken ownership of the record keeping, the playoff format, etc.  We still have a couple of make-ups scheduled but below you can see the latest standings along with the tentative playoff formats

Check out Sunday's D&C Sports Section -- Almost the entire back page of the Sports was devoted to coverage of the League -- the writer, Kevin Oklobzija did a great job on the article and I liked his focus on the Ed & Bryan Renica Father-Son combo!  Here are links to the two articles:  "Adult Baseball is Slower but just as much fun"  and "Adults can return to Baseball"...Enjoy!

Hey Fellow Ballplayers!

I really can't believe we are heading into our 15th season of great hardball action.  It seems like just yesterday that we held our first tryout out at East HS.  We hoped for enough guys to fill out 6 teams...we had enough for 14!  Many of our players have been with us from the start and we all have stories about our return to the game of our youth to share...and some aren't even embellished!... although last I heard, Phillies Manager Ed Renica's dramatic game-tying Home Run at Doubleday Field a few seasons ago is now up to 454 feet!

nabadcsmaller.jpgBy the time the upstate NY weather breaks in mid-May, our 20+ teams will be ready to take the field.  Divided into two age levels (18+ and 28+), our 300+ players range from hot-shot college players to Father-Son combos enjoying the game together.  Opening Day is always a highlight, along with the All-Star Game and Sandlot Day at Fisher.

We play a 16-18 game season in addition to the playoffs and many tournaments around the country.  Most of our games are on Sundays with an occasional Saturday or weeknight game.  We use some of the finest fields in the area and we strive to work with local programs and schools to help them maintain their fields in the best possible manner.

Above all, we pride ourselves on combining positive sportsmanship and great competitive rivalries on the field with our friendships and camaraderie off the field...In other words, we'd rather see a well-played, enjoyable 6 to 5 game than a 14 to 1 blowout! Check back as the season progresses to see how we're doing.  I will look forward to seeing everybody on the diamond in 2008!

John Scarpelli

Rochester NABA League President
